Accessibility Remediation

We fix what the audit found in your site's own code, not in a script on top of it, so the fixes stay if you stop working with us. A person retests every fix, and you get a dated fix log. You approve one fixed price before any work starts.

Who it's for

  • You have an audit and want the issues fixed, not just listed.
  • You don't have a developer, or yours doesn't have time to learn accessibility.
  • Your site runs on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or custom code, like Next.js.
  • Your site has an overlay widget and you want the fixes in your code instead.
  • You want a record of what was fixed, when, and who checked it.

What you get

  • Fixes in your own code

We change your theme, templates and components on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or custom code, like Next.js. The changes stay in your code if you stop working with us.

  • A copy of your site first

We work on a staging site or a duplicate theme. Nothing goes live until you approve it. If a fix changes how your site looks, we show you first.

  • A retest of every fix

A person tests every fix again, the same way the issue was found, and records the date and the result.

  • A dated fix log

For each issue: what we changed, the WCAG criterion, who fixed it, who retested it, and the date.

  • Vendor write-ups

Booking widgets, Shopify's checkout, chat and maps are other companies' tools. If a problem is in another company's tool, we write it up for you to send to them. If it makes sense, we can also build you an accessible replacement. Each write-up has the steps to reproduce the problem.

  • Overlay removal

If your site has an overlay widget, we can remove it as part of the work, so visitors get the fixed site, not a script on top of it.

  • Keeping it fixed

Where your platform allows, we add automated accessibility checks to your build, and give your team a short checklist to use before each release.

How it works

  1. Quote

After the audit, we send one fixed price and an end date. You approve it before any work starts.

  2. Fix on a copy

A front-end developer fixes the issues on a staging site or a duplicate theme, not your live site.

  3. Retest

An accessibility tester retests every fix and adds it to the dated fix log.

  4. Approve

You review the changes. If a fix changes how your site looks, we show you first.

  5. Go live

The approved fixes go live, and you get the final fix log.

How long it takes: Stated in your quote, with an end date. It depends on how many issues the audit found and how many page templates they're in.

What it doesn't include

  • Changing another company's code, like a booking widget, Shopify's checkout, chat or maps. If a problem is in another company's tool, we write it up for you to send to them. If it makes sense, we can also build you an accessible replacement.
  • Content added after the work ends. New pages, products and plugins can add new barriers, which is what monitoring is for.
  • A redesign. If an issue can only be fixed by rebuilding a page, we tell you and quote that separately.
  • PDFs and video captions. Those are add-ons, priced on their own.
  • A legal opinion. Your attorney decides legal questions.

Questions

Why is remediation a quote instead of a set price?

The audit tells us exactly what needs fixing and how much work that is. We turn that into one fixed price with an end date, and you approve it before any work starts.

Will our site go down while you work?

We work on a staging site or a duplicate theme first, so your live site keeps running while we work. Nothing changes on it until you approve.

Which platforms do you work on?

WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and custom sites, like Next.js. We fix what lives in your theme or code. On Shopify, the checkout is Shopify's code, so we test it and write up what we find for you to send to Shopify.

Can you remove our overlay widget?

Yes, if you want us to. We can remove an overlay widget as part of the work. Our fixes go into your site's code, so they don't depend on a script running on top of it.

Who does the work?

A front-end developer makes each fix, on a copy of your site first. An accessibility tester retests it. Your project lead is your contact from quote to final fix log. We reply the next business day.

What if we need a small fix later?

Small fixes outside a quote are $150 an hour. If you want fixes every month, Managed testing + fixes includes up to 2 fix hours a month for $395 per site.

We have an audit from another company. Can you fix from it?

Yes. We check it first at our hourly rate of $150, then quote the fixes. You approve the quote before any work starts.
