Who we help

Accessibility for Restaurants and Bars

Guests check your menu, your hours and how to find you, then book a table or order online. We test those journeys with a keyboard and screen readers, and fix what gets in the way.

What we test

  • Menus

Menus on the page, and PDF or image menus: whether a screen reader can read every dish, price and allergy note.

  • Online ordering and reservations

Choosing a time or a dish and getting to the confirmation, including the parts run by another company's ordering or booking tool.

  • Events and specials

Event listings, specials and happy-hour pages, and the banners and sliders that announce them.

  • Hours, locations and maps

Opening hours, address, phone number, map and directions, and whether they're on the page as text.

  • Galleries, pop-ups and age gates

Photo galleries, sign-up pop-ups and age checks: whether a keyboard user can get past them to the rest of the site.

Barriers we often find

  • Barrier

A menu posted as a photo or a scanned PDF, so a screen reader can't read any of it.

    Fix

We put the menu on the page as real text, or tag the PDF so a screen reader can read it.

  • Barrier

Opening hours shown only in an image or inside a map, so a screen reader user can't find them.

    Fix

We add the hours, address and phone number as text on the page, next to the map.

  • Barrier

An age check on a bar or drinks page that a keyboard can't get past, so the whole site is out of reach.

    Fix

We make the question and its buttons work with a keyboard and a screen reader, then take the person to the page they asked for.

  • Barrier

A sign-up pop-up that traps the keyboard, so a person can't close it or get back to the page.

    Fix

We make the pop-up close with the Escape key and a labeled close button, then send the person back to where they were on the page.

  • Barrier

An events slider that moves on its own, with no way to pause it.

    Fix

We add a visible pause button, or stop the slider from moving on its own.

  • Barrier

Gallery photos with no text description, so a screen reader reads out a file name instead.

    Fix

We add a short description to each photo that matters, and mark decorative photos so a screen reader skips them.

What we can't control

  • Online ordering, reservation and delivery tools are usually another company's code, and we can't change it. If a problem is in another company's tool, we write it up for you to send to them. If it makes sense, we can also build you an accessible replacement.
  • Map embeds are another company's tool. We add the address and directions as text beside them.
  • We test whether a keyboard user can get past your age check, not whether it meets alcohol laws. Your attorney decides legal questions.
  • New menus, events and photos can add new barriers. That's what monitoring is for.

Where to start

  • Free snapshot

We check up to 10 key pages, like your home, menu, hours and ordering pages, and send you a plain-English summary.

  • Accessibility audit

People test your menu, ordering and reservation journeys with a keyboard and screen readers. From $1,200.

  • Monitoring plans

Weekly scans with every alert reviewed by a person, from $99 a month, so we can flag new barriers as your menus and events change.

Questions

Our ordering and reservations come from another company. Can you still help?

Yes. We test the whole journey, including their part. If a problem is in another company's tool, we write it up for you to send to them. If it makes sense, we can also build you an accessible replacement. Barriers in your own site's code, we can fix.

We change our menu every week. How do we keep it accessible?

Post it as text on your website, not as a photo or a scanned PDF. As part of the fixes, we can set up a menu page your team can update without a developer. Team training shows your staff what to check before they publish.

Can you fix our PDF menus?

Yes. We fix PDFs so a screen reader can read them, from $7 a page with a $200 minimum. For a menu that changes often, a text menu on your website is easier to keep up to date.

Which plan fits a single restaurant or bar?

Most start with the free snapshot, then an audit of up to 10 page templates at $1,200, which includes 1 key journey, usually ordering or reservations. After the fixes, Monitor at $99 a month watches for new barriers as your menus and events change.

We have more than one location. What changes?

If your locations share one website and the same page templates, see our page for multi-location businesses. One fix in a shared template reaches every location page.

We provide technical accessibility services, not legal advice.

Tell us your website. We'll run an automated check of up to 10 key pages and walk you through what we found. It's an automated check that finds only some issues, not an audit.
